The Discipline Contract

A Commitment to Systems Over Feelings

Motivation is a fickle employee. Discipline is the reliable CEO. This contract is an agreement with your future self to show up, do the work, and honor your goals, regardless of your daily mood. Print it out, fill it in, and sign it.

Article I: The Core Objective

My single most important goal for the remainder of this quarter is:

______________________________

Article II: The Non-Negotiable Process

"Amateurs have goals. Professionals have a process."

To achieve the goal above, my non-negotiable process, which I will execute regardless of my level of motivation, is:

  • The Action: (What is the one key activity?) ______________________________
  • The Schedule: (When and for how long?) ______________________________
  • The Environment: (Where will I do it, and how will I minimize distractions?) ______________________________

Article III: The "In Case of No Motivation" Clause

On days when I feel zero motivation to follow the process, I will not debate or negotiate with myself. Instead, I will commit to the "Two-Minute Rule." I will perform the action outlined in Article II for a minimum of two minutes. After two minutes, I may stop, but I must start.

Article IV: The Signature

I understand that my feelings are temporary, but the outcome of my actions is cumulative. I commit to honoring this process over my mood, and my future self over my present comfort.
