The Daily Focus Filter
A 3-Step Checklist to Win Your Day
Use this simple filter at the start of each workday to cut through the noise of "busy-ness" and align your energy with what truly matters. This exercise should take no more than 5 minutes.
Step 1: The Brain Dump
Write down everything you think you need to do today. Don't filter or organize. Just get all the tasks, big and small, out of your head and onto a list. (e.g., Answer client emails, Post on social media, Finish project proposal, Schedule dentist appointment, Research competitors).
Step 2: The Impact Question
Look at your list and ask this single, powerful question for each item:
"If I could only do one thing on this list today to make the biggest progress towards my long-term goals, which one would it be?"
This isn't about what's urgent, what's easiest, or what someone else is waiting for. It's about impact. Circle that one task. This is your "Most Important Task" (MIT).
Step 3: The Commitment
Now, commit to executing your MIT. This means two things:
- Time Block: Immediately block out a 60-90 minute "Focus Block" in your calendar to work only on this task. Treat this appointment with yourself as unbreakable.
- Eliminate Distractions: Before your Focus Block begins, turn off phone notifications, close unnecessary tabs, and clear your workspace. Protect this time fiercely.
The Result
Even if you get nothing else done, completing your MIT means you won the day. You moved the needle. You were focused, not just busy. Everything else you accomplish is a bonus. Repeat this process daily to build unstoppable momentum.
