The Action Bias Framework
Escape the Trap of Productivity Porn
Consuming content feels productive, but it's often a form of sophisticated procrastination. True momentum comes from creation, not consumption. This simple framework helps you shift your focus from passive learning to active building.
Step 1: The 5-Minute Rule
The biggest hurdle is starting. Commit to doing just 5 minutes of your most important task. Don't think about the full hour or the entire project. Just start the timer and work for 5 minutes. More often than not, you'll find the inertia to continue long after the timer goes off.
Step 2: Create Before You Consume
Make it a non-negotiable rule: you must produce something before you consume any content (social media, news, YouTube videos). Write one line of code, design one element, write one paragraph of a proposal, or make one sales call. This wires your brain to prioritize output.
Step 3: Implement "Just-In-Time" Learning
Instead of learning "just-in-case" you might need it someday, only learn what you need for the immediate task at hand. Need to run a Facebook ad? Don't watch a 10-hour course. Find a 5-minute tutorial on setting up your first campaign and implement it immediately. This makes learning an active part of the building process.
